So just a couple weeks after releasing her nine-and-a-half-minute “Telephone” music video, Lady Gaga is already on to the next one.
She is said to have enlisted fashion photographer Steven Klein to direct the video for her next single “Alejandro,” even though her next single should probably be “Monster,” but whatever. Klein is known primarily for his celebrity and editorial work for French and Italian Vogue, Details and W magazine. He has dabbled in video a bit, directing a handful of commercials and short fashion films and collaborating with Madonna on the background videos for her 2004 and 2006 concert tours.
While the choice of Klein is a departure for Gaga, who has relied on music-video vets like Jonas Akerlund for “Telephone” and “Paparazzi” and Francis Lawrence for the epic “Bad Romance” video (which we actually prefer over the “Telephone” video, if only for the McQueen) in the past, it makes a certain sense — “Alejandro” is about a tumultuous breakup and Klein is great at depicting sexual tension. But this being Gaga, she’s likely to not do a literal interpretation of the song anyway. So who knows?!
