A lot of people are still trying to figure out what Nicki brings to the table. Some say everything she has done has BEEN done. I disagree. The number ONE thing Onika brings to female rap- FEMININITY FOR FEMALES.
Prior to Nicki, femcees were feminine, but were trying to be feminine for the guys. When females did songs about sex or lookgin sexy, it was to appeal to guys. Of course female fans came too, but Foxy Brown talking about getting her na na like on the hood of a dude's car was to attract men, not ladies. Even with Lil' Kim, as Pop and girly she was, her records were to attract men, hence her lingerie-wearing ass on 89% of her shows.
Before Nicki came along, if you were a female rapper and someone said you rapped like a girl, it was looked down upon, but it was a compliment to say you "spit like a dude" or 'better than most dudes rapping." With Nicki on the scene, she gives a "rapping like a girl" a positive outlook. It's almost preferred. Just check all the chicks on Youtube MIMICKING Nicki's girly persona all in the name of Barbie.

Now that Ms. Minaj is on the scene, she brings girlyness and femininity for the women. I don't just mean that in a bi-curious way, but in a way that women and young ladies are attracted to and men can be like "uhhh, I'ma dude. I can't be singing songs about my "Girlfriend" who is ONLY my friend we're BFFs, waling around in matching pink purses." Sure, Nicki has songs for the dudes and records that appeal to men, but in general she caters to women. You've seen clips of her shows,. Majority of her audiences and fans are women.
A lot of people said she abandoned her "hood chick" beginnings, but even then she gave you a taste of future Nicki. On her debut mixtape, she has a song called "Sticks In My Bun," where the title references to a feminine hair style. Sure, many people took it out of context and the song did appeal to men, but it was a taste of what was to come: Nicki the Barbie.
PS: As a guy, I would love old Nicki to return. Give us some "Click Clack," "Autobiography," something!
