Nas got a new record out called "Power, Paper, & Pussy." From the title, I thought it was gonna be like The Lox's "Money, Power & Respect" but it's not. I wonder if it's finished, though, because the lyrics from the verse doesn't even fit the topic of "Power, Paper, Pussy."
As usual, the lyrics are strong. Nasir Jones doesn't disappoint in that category. The problem with this record, sonically, is that the beat is....blah! The drum beat is hot, but the trumpet in the background takes the song in a dreary, boring, Debbie Downer mood. This has been a long, on-going problem with Mr. Jones because his lyrics are always better than the beat, but in a bad way. It's like the beats can be very lackluster or wack, while he spits a hot rhyme that fails to elevate the beat. The beat, by the way, was produced by Nas & Salaam Reemi and scratched by DJ Green Lantern.
